Today, American Ambassador to Kenya, Robert ‘Bob’ Godec, visited St John’s Community School in Korogocho to enjoy some authentic Kenyan jazz, provided by students at the school.

The school is home to the Ghetto Classics project, which is supported by the Safaricom Jazz Festival. The scheme uses music education to provide local youths with opportunities to better themselves and their community.

All this week the school is hosting different musicians from various countries from around the world.

The US Ambassador clearly enjoyed himself from photographs which were posted on Twitter during his visit.

“Music speaks to all of us. It’s important 2 everyone. Without music, I’d be lost!” – US Ambassador to Kenya, Bob Godec

For jazz lovers, the Safaricom Jazz Festival takes place on 21 February at the Safaricom Stadium Kasarani. Doors open at 10am and the music starts at midday. For more information, check out the official website.
