The UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey, and the US Ambassador Robert ‘Bob’ Godec met up at the finish line of the First Lady’s Half Marathon today (6 March).

While Mr Hailey completed the 5km route, Mr Godec ran the entire 21km to raise money for the Beyond Zero campaign.

Generously, the UK High Commissioner had promised to sponsor all of his High Commission staff who entered the event, an offer which was taken up by 102 of his colleagues. Together, they raised a very impressive Ksh 250,000.

The First Lady of Kenya herself, Margaret Kenyatta, ran 10km and later received a SOMA (Social Media Award) for ‘Best use of Social Media for charity’.

Among the other runners were Deputy President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and the First Lady of Rwanda, Jeannette Kagame.

The Beyond Zero Campign will help mothers and children thrive-whether urban or rural, HIV+ or not and understand challenges to maternal, newborn and child health.
