The UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey, and the American Ambassador Robert ‘Bob’ Godec have released a joint statement on yesterday’s agreement on the motion to establish a Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on matters relating to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) between Jubilee and the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy.

The statement in full reads:

We welcome yesterday’s agreement between Jubilee and the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy on the motion to establish a Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on matters relating to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). We encourage the parties to continue their good faith negotiations. Kenyan public confidence in the electoral institutions and process is essential for free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections in August 2017.

Last month, the Kenyan Heads of Mission released a joint statement on the recent violent demonstrations, and Mr Hailey had previously expressed his concern via social media service Twitter.
