Yesterday, Nic Hailey, along with his UK High Commission team, spent International Volunteer Day supporting Jehovah Jireh children’s home in Nairobi.
The children’s home, located in Njiru District, was founded in August 2005 and helps orphaned and vulnerable children living on the streets, giving them shelter, education, medical care and work to give them hope and a future.
They currently support 75 residential and 65 outreach children and the High Commission team spent their volunteer day sharing valuable skills with them.
Among the team helping out were charity committee chair Sylvia, electrician Felix and mechanic James.
International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day (IVD) (originally and still known as International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development) is held annually on December 5 and is an international observance designated by the United Nations since 1985.
The day is marked by many non-governmental organizations, including the Red Cross, scouts and others.
