UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey, has been addressing the Multi-Sectoral Forum II: Securing Elections 2017 conference at Ufungamano House in Nairobi.
Ufungamano House is the more familiar name for The Christian Student Leadership Centre, a ministry to the Nairobi University community.
Today’s forum has been looking at ways to ensure peaceful and fair elections in Kenya when the country goes to the polls later this year.
Tweeting from the event, Mr Hailey said it was a “privilege” to be invited to attend and reaffirmed the UK government’s “support for Kenya as it prepares for free, fair, peaceful and credible elections.”
Clearly impressed by the attendance at the forum, he ended his Tweet with “Great turnout!”.
The objectives of the forum are:
- To create a platform for dialogue and participation by non-sate actors in electoral reforms.
- To consolidate and advance a national electoral reform agenda for Kenya.
- To undertake oversight so as to ensure accountability of the Parliamentary Reform Initiative.
- To promote peace and national cohesion for peaceful and credible 2017 elections.
American ambassador Bob Godec was also one of the speakers at the event, the day after the two joined other representatives of Kenya’s partner countries at a pre-election meeting at the Swedish Ambassador’s residence in Nairobi.
