Man with Kenyan wife arrested at Stansted Airport on terrorism charges

A 37-year-old man has appeared in court in London charged with terror offences.

Aweys Faqey was arrested at London Stansted Airport last Tuesday while attempting to board a plane bound for Istanbul and subsequently charged with preparing acts of terrorism. He was allegedly carrying four mobile phones and $700 in cash.

The Somalia born Dutch citizen has lived in the U.K. since 2013 and had been residing in Tottenham. He has a wife and five children in the Netherlands and another wife and child in Kenya.

Appearing in Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday, he spoke only to confirm his identity and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance at the Old Bailey on June 9.
