Last night, the UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey, attended the Raising Vices photo exhibition at the Alliance Française de Nairobi.
Raising Voices is a photography project led by the Mathare Foundation and supported by the French Embassy in Nairobi.
The Mathare Foundation is a community based organization that trains children and young people in photography, performing arts and sports.
The main objective of this project is to reduce radicalisation among young people in the Mathare slums through photography workshops. Since September last year, 25 young people aged 8 to 16 have enrolled on the project.
For this particular exhibition, the theme was sports photography with cricket, football, volleyball and basketball all featuring in the exhibition.
Tweeting about the event, Mr Hailey described it as a “cool evening”, adding “great work by Eric, James & team with their talented kids.”
All the exhibited photographs on display were captured by budding young photographers from the Mathare Foundation.
