On Saturday night, Gathimba Edwards Foundation volunteers Darren Cocker and Sarah Sinclair raised an impressive £1,769 at their fundraising event to help pay for the building materials which volunteers will use to build four houses in Kenya this October.

This event at the Legion Montrose brought their total fundraising to £2,260.

In October 2017, the pair will be heading to Katarina as a volunteer for GEF to take part in their 2 week annual charity build.

Darren will be project managing this year’s build after voluteering on both the 2015 and 2016 trips.

The charity used their Facebook page to thank those who attended, donated prizes, sponsored and helped organise the event.

This latest injection of funding takes the charity’s total fundraising for the land and materials to almost £17,000 with just £8,000 left to raise.

The Scottish charity is dedicated to improving the lives of hundreds of underprivileged Kenyan families and children that are in desperate need of help.

These build projects provide them with safe protected homes they can forever call their own, and take them out of the deprived conditions they are currently living in.

In October 2015, a team of independent GEF volunteers very successfully built a 16 bed dormitory and a 3 bedroom house in just two weeks, and in October of last year a new team of volunteers built an incredible 5 homes in 9 days.

The growth of the charity has allowed GEF to support local children who are also in need.
