Former Deputy High Commissioner appointed UK Ambassador to Democratic Republic of the Congo

Dr John Murton is appointed Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo.

Former Deputy High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr John Morton has been appointed Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The former UK Deputy High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr John Evan Murton has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo.

Dr Murton succeeds Mr Graham Zebedee and is taking up his appointment during this month.

Announcing his news in French on Twitter, the former Deputy to Nic Hailey said: “It’s an honor to be named British Ambassador to the #DRC and #Congo.”

He also thanked his predecessor for his work using the social media network.

Mr Zebedee also Tweeted his response in French, saying: “Success to my successor! The very best of luck to my successor!”

Doctor Murton left his post in Kenya last month after four-and-a-half years and was succeeded as UK Deputy High Commissioner to Kenya by Susie Kitchens.

Prior to taking up his position in Kenya, his roles included British High Commissioner & Her Majesty’s non-resident Ambassador to Madagascar and the Comoros and Head, East Asia and Pacific Department Head at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
