A pair of coffee mornings, organised by Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF) volunteers have collectively raised £1,162 for the Scottish based Kenyan charity.
Caroline Tough’s coffee morning raised over £340 ahead of her trip to Kenya which leaves on Friday while another organised by Susan and Derek Brown’s added £821 for the house building materials.
Coffee, tea and a selection of herbal teas along with mouthwatering home bakes were all on offer at Caroline’s event at Haymarket in Edinburgh on Saturday along with the opportunity to win prizes in a raffle.
In total, Caroline’s GEF Coffee Morning raised a fantastic £341.15 which brings her total raised to date to a whopping £8,140.15 while Susan and Derek’s collection has risen to £2,516.
All proceeds from the events will go towards the building materials for houses which Caroline and the other GEF volunteers will help to build in Kenya this month for two of the families supported by the charity.
The house which Caroline helps to build will be dedicated to the memory of her cousin, Dr John Lindsay who died suddenly last year. John spent his professional life helping people so it is fitting that Dr John’s house will help many people for years to come.
This year’s housebuilding trip will run from 7th to 19th October during which the volunteers will build two new homes for families in Karatina, Nyeri County.
Anne, Faith, Phoeby and Ivy will be four of the Kenyan children moving into the new homes along with their mums and siblings.
