The UK has today updated the wording of their travel advice for Kenya following the inaugration of President Kenyatta last week. Released at 11.17 GMT today, this update appears to be a simple rewrite of the previous release, replacing reference to the upcoming inaugration to make it clear the event has already taken place.
Today’s update in full reads:
“Latest Update: Summary – President Kenyatta was inaugurated for a second five year term on 28 November 2017. Political tensions are high and demonstrations and clashes are possible throughout the country, particularly in the western region; you should exercise caution and, where possible, avoid travelling around areas where demonstrations may take place.”
The pre-inaugration update was wrongly claimed by some sources to be a warning against travelling to Kenya, which was refuted by the High Commission in Nairobi.
