The Muthaiga Country Club is the venue for this year’s Burns Night, organised by the Caledonian Society of Kenya.
Burns Night, held in honour of Scotland’s most famous poet Robert Burns, is celebrated at the end of January every year to remember the life of the 18th century bard and it falls on his birthday – January 25.
The first Burns Night took place five years after his death in 1801 when his friends and comrades gathered at Burns Cottage to celebrate his life.
Although Burns night traditionally takes place on the poet’s birthday (25 January), celebrations may take place on the preceding or following weekend depending on which day of the week it falls on.
This year’s Kenyan celebration is taking place on the 27 January, and the evening will include a 4 course meal accompanied by traditional haggis, neeps (turnips), tatties (potatoes) and bevvy (alcoholic drinks).
Tickets cost Ksh 6,000 and are available by emailing the Caledonian Society of Kenya or calling 0708 180610.
