After visiting KMET yesterday morning, the UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey and his team met Kisumu Governor Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the father of Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, for a consultative discussion at his office.
Among various topics, the meeting explored areas of possible partnership and investment between the United Kingdom and Kisumu County.
Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o is the former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election, representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency.
During his political career, he has held the positions of Minister for Medical Services and Minister for Planning & National Development. Prior to serving as the Governor for Kisumu County, he was the area’s Senator from 2013 – 2017.
The High Commissioner later addressed the Kisumu County Assembly where he underscored the need for strengthening of institutions in the county.
Tweeting after the meeting, Mr Hailey said it was “an honour to address the Kisumu County Assembly this afternoon on strengthening the UK’s partnership with this beautiful county.”
“The Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce is with me to take message back to UK companies on investment opportunities in Kisumu,” he added.
