One of this year’s Kenya house building volunteers with the Gathimba Edwards Foundation will be a familiar face returning for her second year.
Caroline Tough was so inspired by last year’s experience that she signed up to do it all again, and to raise the funding for her place on the team, she has completed a charity 85 mile run across Scotland from Inverness to Skye.
The 5 day run has helped her cross her £5k fundraising finishing line.
“I had such a life changing experience last year being part of The Gathimba Edwards Foundation House Building Project in Kenya, that I signed up within days of returning to the UK for this year’s trip,” Caroline said.
“One of the many highlights from visiting Kenya was meeting my sponsor child, Dan. He is such an inspiring person. This year I have the privilege of being part of a team that will build a house for Dan and his family.
“My fundraising goal is to raise the cost of the building materials for Dan’s house. The house will be dedicated to the memory my amazing friend, Cheryl McQue. Cheryl spent her life helping people and it is fitting that Cheryl will be helping Dan and his family for many years to come.”
Caroline was the winning bidder for a place on the Run Across Scotland experience which was donated by Neil Stewart of Running the Highlands at last year’s Gathimba Edwards Dinner.
“Neil looked after my fellow runners and I so well- arguably too well! I’ll always be looking out for Neil and his mini bus complete with peppermint tea and goodies half way through a long run! Neil was supported by our two fantastic guides; Ruth and Jon. What a tip top team,” Caroline said after finishing on Thursday.
Through the Gathimba Edwards Foundation’s Facebook page, Caroline thanked everyone who donated to her fundraising effort and send messages of support.
