A charity sail around the Isle of Wight, on behalf of UK based Kenyan Charity Uzima in Our Hands, is on track to hit its £2k target.
The fundraisers set sail last Saturday (2 June) in two boats, the Conquest and the Request, to navigate the waters around the Isle of Wight in one day with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the charity.
According to a Facebook post from Yarmouth Sailing Club, “the Quests rounded the island in an astonishing time of 11.5 hours! Conditions were, in the event, absolutely ideal and despite many weather challenges on the way; breeze to the needles, calmness at Brook, fog (the Needles ‘disappeared’ completely shortly after they’d been rounded; the overfalls of St Catherine’s; a tail wind for Sandown Bay; becalmed at Seaview, followed by F4/5 sea breeze in the Solent with a big wind versus tide conditions back to Yarmouth.”
The Conquest was crewed by Joy Mowle, Jojo with Harry Minchin with the Request team made up of Annette and Kirsty Scivier with Tom Ainsworth in the event which was generously supported by Yarmouth Sailing Club.
Support was provided by André and Ronni Usborne in the RIB/safety boat, and Thursdays Child helmed by Bol Minchin, with a crew consisting of Graeme Bowen and Richard Minchin.
