The Managing Director of Lincolnshire based L J Fairburn and Son Limited, one of the largest egg producers and packers in the UK, is attempting the mammoth feat of completing two heart-pumping marathons in two days across the Saharan desert later this year.
Daniel Fairburn, the son of business owners Stuart and Judy Fairburn, has set himself an ambitious charity fundraising target of £45,000 for this adventure of a lifetime which will take him over sunbaked sand dunes, across rugged mountain ranges and see him sleeping under the stars along the way.
This is all for a cause close to Daniel’s heart – helping fellow farmers and their families.
Donations from this fundraising effort in October will go to Farm Africa which helps combat poverty by working with smallholder farmers in east Africa to increase harvests, become self-sufficient and start businesses.
Daniel is hoping to beat the amount he raised four years ago when he climbed Kilimanjaro for Food For Good, a major fundraising campaign set up by the UK food industry to support Farm Africa.
He said: “Thanks to everyone’s extreme generosity, I was able to raise a whopping £45,000 for the Kilimanjaro climb, smashing our original target of £35,000. This autumn, when I tackle the Sahara, I’d love to raise even more. It’s a fantastic cause, helping people in need in a really positive way.”
