George Clooney has revealed how a visit to Kenya’s Giraffe Manor in Nairobi convinced him to propose to British barrister Amal Alamuddin.

Discussing Amal’s visit to Kenya in February 2014, George said: “Amal loves giraffes; they’re her favourite animal.

“She went to this place called Giraffe Manor, where the giraffes stick their heads through the windows and kiss you.”

She had sent him a photo of herself, looking back and smiling at the giraffes and during his subsequent visit to LA, George showed the image to his actor friend Ben Weiss and told him “I think I’m going to ask her to marry me.”

Ben replied: “I think that’s a good idea.”

Amal accepted the actor’s proposal and the couple were married in September 2014.
