A fundraiser for Kenyan charity mothers2mothers (m2m) held their Midsummer Soirée in London on Thursday night to celebrate the lifesaving HIV education and support the organisation have been able to bring to so many in East Africa.
Actor, writer and former Fast Show star Arabella Weir kicked off the evening’s celebration which also featured an interview with Mentor Mother Liako, hosted by m2m patron Samantha Bond.
Speaking to the actress and former Miss Moneypenny, Liako said: “My 14 year old son told me he wanted to work for m2m when he grows up because of how proud he is of the work his mum does.”
Clearly inspired by her discussion, shortly after midnight the actress Tweeted: “Liako is an amazing woman, doing an amazing job. I’m so proud to be a patron.”
Also speaking at the event was m2m Global Development and Strategic Engagement Director, Emma France who discussed the power of women in bringing hope and health to communities across sub-Saharan Africa.
Mentor Mothers literally cross rivers and cycle for miles to reach the most vulnerable women in the world.
Among the guests at the fundraising evening were m2m Founder Dr. Mitch Besser, singer and charity patron Annie Lennox, and wife of former Prime Minister Samantha Cameron.
Lending a impromptu hand with auctioneer duties was Poldark actor Christian Brassington.
The actor, who plays Ossie Whitworth in the Cornwall based series, later appeared in a selfie with fellow guest, actress Georgina Tennant, known to many sci-fi fans as the daughter of 5th Doctor Peter Davison and wife of 10th Doctor David Tennant.
Among the amazing items donated for the silent auction were the Eurythmics’ first three newly remastered vinyl albums signed by Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart and the opportunity to have David Walliams visit a school of the winner’s choosing to read a chapter of his new book The World’s Worst Children 3.
Also on offer were tickets, plus two return flights from London to Milan, for the Spring Summer 2019 GUCCI Fashion Show.
