A Charity Race Night held at the Faringdon Corn Exchange last Friday (12th May) by African Children’s Fund raised over £800 for the UK based Kenyan charity.

During the evening, attendees had the opportunity to bet on the outcome of six horse races, each of which were screened so those taking part could cheer on their favourites to be first past the post.

Kenya was the first country African Children’s Fund worked in.

One of the projects launched by the charity were their ‘porridge clubs’. They found that when parents cannot afford to feed their children, they have to work, beg or scavenge for food instead of going school. By providing a nutritious porridge meal once a day, the problem is eliminated entirely.

What’s more, as hungry children struggle to learn or concentrate,  the introduction of “Porridge Clubs” into some of Thika’s most needy schools has produced remarkable results.
