Gathimba Edwards Foundation’s 2018 Mount Kenya Marvellous Road Races takes place in Karatina

On Saturday, the 3rd Edition of Gathimba Edwards Foundation’s (GEF) Mount Kenya Marvellous Road Races took place in Karatina.

Over 400 people were in attendance to support or take part in kids, junior, senior and veterans races with distances ranging from 2k to 10k.

Also in attendance were GEF ambassadors Bethwell Birgen (world indoor bronze medalist 2018) and Wilson Kipsang (former WR record holder & winner of Tokyo, New York, London & Berlin Marathons) who drove 8 hours to share words of wisdom to motivate the athletes.

Entrants raced through the streets at 1,900m above sea level in 25 degree heat.

The charity’s Kenya 22 guests, who have been in Kenya for the last week, also took part.

Posting on their Facebook page, the Aberdeen based charity said: “These races wouldn’t have been possible without months or preparation work by our GEF team and race committee in Kenya – we thank you all for your selfless efforts to give kids in Kenya a chance.”
