Designer Group, an Irish mechanical and electrical engineering company Designer Group is expanding its facilities management business with the purchase of Limerick’s Lenmac Mechanical Services, subject to approval by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
Among the company’s recent projects were the recently completed Ksh15 billion East African Breweries Limited (EABL) refurbishment in Kisumu. At its peak, the project had over 900 construction workers on site and involved an average of 88% local Kenyan workforce.
Following a record 11 month turnaround, the EABL 1.0 m HI brewery produced its first brew of Senator lager in July.
As well as local projects such as Capital Dock in Dublin the company is also working on a spirits plant in Kampala, Uganda. They have also carried out electrical service inspections and testing packages at Tullow Oil’s Kapese Camp and West End Tower in Kenya.
The Lenmac takeover, the terms of which have not been disclosed, is part of a wider expansion of Designer Group, which had turnover of €160m last year. Last year, it purchased a US energy consultancy company and is targeting turnover of €350m by 2020.
Designer Group was founded in 1992 by Michael Stone, a former head of the Construction Industry Federation. It works on industrial and commercial projects for construction, tech, pharma and manufacturing groups in Ireland and across the globe. Lenmac was founded in 1979 and is owned by John and Carmel Lenihan.
