Safaricom make M-Pesa powered Bonga chat app available for download

The Bonga app from Safaricom makes M-Pesa transactions an integral part of the chat experience.

Safaricom’s long awaited Bonga App is finally available to download from the Google Play store. 

As we reported in May, Bonga (which means “chat” in Kiswahili) is based around a chat interface, similar to WhatsApp, but with built in MPESA integration to make it easy for users to send and receive money, facilitate mobile phone top ups, pay for transactions via Till and PayBill numbers as well as have discussions with friends and family.

Safaricom is 35 percent owned by South African group Vodacom and 5 percent by Vodacom’s major shareholder Vodafone.

The app is available for download by clicking this link. but while the app is in beta, you will need apply to have your phone number white listed using this online form.
